How we check pet policies

Every pet rule on this site carries a label saying where it came from and the date we retrieved it. This page explains what those labels mean, how we handle sources that disagree, and — just as importantly — what we do not know.

Where the information comes from

We start with structured data from a hotel-data provider. Where important details are missing or look wrong, we look at the property’s own published policy page. Both routes are recorded against the individual property, with the date.

We do not paraphrase a hotel’s marketing description and present it as a policy. A rule appears on this site only when a source states it.

The three source labels

These are the only labels we use. They are not interchangeable, and a weaker one is never displayed as a stronger one.

LabelWhat it means

Supplier-reported · 12 Sep 2026

A hotel-data provider returned this value, and we show the date we retrieved it. It is the most common label on the site and the least specific.

Published on the hotel website · 4 Sep 2026

We matched the property’s own website and read the policy it publishes there. Matching is done on name plus address, never on name alone.

Manually reviewed · 1 Sep 2026

A member of our team checked the record. This label does not mean that the hotel confirmed the policy directly; any unknown or conflicting detail still stays unknown.

What we do when sources disagree

We do not pick a winner and hide the disagreement. A conflict suppresses any confident total and shows you both statements with their dates, so you can see exactly what we are unsure about.

An older website figure and a newer provider figure are not resolved simply by preferring one source. Until we can check, the calculator does not produce a confident total and the honest answer is that we do not know.

What “unknown” means here

Unknown is a real state on this site, not a blank we tidy away:

  • No published pet fee shows as Pet fee not specified. It never shows as 0.00 or “free”, because a silent source is not a free hotel.
  • No published weight limit is not the same as no weight limit. We distinguish the two, and only the second one is a permission.
  • A general “pets allowed” statement is never treated as including cats. Cats appear only where a source says cats.
  • A missing maximum pet count is not unlimited capacity.

Unknown rules do not count as a confirmed match.

Our own thresholds, stated plainly

Some filters need a number that no one else defines for us. Where that happens we publish ours rather than leaving it implied:

  • Large dogs uses 30 kg as our reference weight. That is our product threshold, not a universal definition of a large dog, and each property’s actual limit is always shown.
  • No pet fee means a published zero mandatory pet surcharge for the species shown. A refundable deposit may still apply and is always listed separately.

What this site does not do

  • We do not show room prices or availability. Those live with the booking provider, and we say so wherever we link out.
  • We do not carry star ratings, review scores or reviews of any kind.
  • We cannot guarantee that a property will accept your animal. A policy match is a reading of published rules, not a reservation.
  • A photograph of a room is not evidence that the room accepts pets, and we never caption one as if it were.

A policy match is not a room or booking guarantee. Confirm with the hotel before you travel.

How we pay for this

Some links to booking providers earn us a commission. We may earn a commission if you book through this link. It does not change what you pay or how we describe a pet policy. There is no paid placement in our rankings and no hidden commission weighting in the order of results. See our affiliate disclosure for the detail.
